Campaign Promise #4
Back our Police, Ensuring Law Enforcement is Well Funded to Keep us Safe
I consistently voted in favor of resources for our police. Chesterfield’s internationally accredited law enforcement agency employs ninety-nine full time commissioned police officers. Since I assumed my council position, we replaced many of our officers’ outdated vehicles. We have updated technologies to support their critical work and upgraded rooms for organizational efficiency.
Importantly, we approved a new 3-year Agreement with Chesterfield’s law enforcement (Fraternal Order of Police) including improved benefits and more competitive salaries.
We also facilitated a smooth transition from outgoing Chesterfield Chief of Police, Chief Ray Johnson, to our new Chief, Cheryl Funkhouser, following a continuity of operations plan that ensured high-quality service.
As a member of the Public Health and Safety Committee, which plays a crucial role in Chesterfield's development, I am especially delighted to announce the launch of an alternative court for veterans grappling with substance abuse and mental health challenges.
