Campaign Promise #6
Stay active in the Planning of our New Downtown and Urban Core
As the Chair of Chesterfield’s Planning and Public Works Committee, I was responsible for the 1st line review for rezoning Chesterfield Mall to become downtown Chesterfield. We encouraged input from residents and inspired a unanimous vote for the zoning change by Council, which will enable a vibrant, mixed-use downtown.
Downtown Chesterfield: The current concept emphasizes pedestrians over autos, including a 1-mile walking loop and bike paths along the downtown perimeter. In the center is a 3.5-acre park which will be surrounded by ground floor retail, offices, restaurants, and residential. The intent is a walkable, safe, and ecologically sustainable urban district. 25% of the site will be dedicated to public plazas and sidewalks, parks, trails, and rain gardens – reducing the heat island effect and ensuring its legacy as a place where friends and families can gather. Further, the wider vision includes connecting to our Central park and surrounding neighborhoods, a specific request of residents.
We are fortunate to be courted by high-end development and high-quality residential developments. This type and pace of economic development in Chesterfield is exceptional and not typical. It represents a unique and exciting moment that we can all collectively take pride in.
I appreciate the role that I play in managing the growth and development of our community and will work diligently to represent our best interests.
